The Ex's Email

topic posted Mon, May 10, 2004 - 12:50 AM by  Bailey
Hahaha.... I've never told anyone this before, but I check my ex's email sometimes, just for fun. We broke up about a year and a half ago, and he's dumb enough that he hasn't changed his password. How bad am I for this?

Not bad at all. You may not have completely said goodbye though. But I am a hopeless romantic and I can't say I wouldn't do the exact same thing (probably because I did the exact same thing at one point).

If he ever found out you could be prosecuted under hacking crimes.

Seriously; the voyeuristic thrill isn't worth it. Some plucky young DA might just decide to make an example out of you and charge you with a felony.

Whenever you log on to his email, your IP address is tracked so it CAN be traced back to you.

I did not know that. Thanks. I don't think I'll be checking it anymore now.

I don't think it would be worth the DAs time either. It would be, however, if an e-mail was sent from that account with treasonous threats or hate crime e-mails. Just reading someone elses e-mails would not be worth the taxpayer's money. Now if the person wanted to spend their money on a lwayer, which also would probably not be likely when they could just change the password, no charges would ever be filed.

      Just a thought

It's not ethical or moral in any case and I would avoid the practice of reading email you do not have unauthorized access too.

Not that anyone should listen to me, but I think both parties are in error.
The guy really should change his password, or he's just inviting this kind of thing.

Larry- do you think she should tell him that his old password still works?

I think it's much to her credit that she hasn't changed his password for him and then not bothered to tell him what the new one is.

I'm with you there - sometimes it's the only way you'll ever find out the truth. Even if the emails are in Swedish.
